PAINTER | TATTOO ARTIST | MURALIST | DECORATIVE ARTIST
LOS ANGELES, CA
I began oil painting when I was sixteen in the corner of my bedroom in Lake Placid, NY. My family moved to the small, Adirondack town from New York City when I was eight. The dichotomy between the two environments was irreconcilable: my first home, a metropolis brimming with other Greeks like me, ethnic groups and culture; my acclimated home, a nature-surrounded, quiet town nestled remotely in the middle of (what seemed like) nowhere. It is from this that my world-view developed. The synthesis of my past experiences coupled with my empathic approach to life, Greek heritage and Kundalini yoga practice has translated into a deep-seated emotional connection with how we as humans live our lives and what it is that dictates our emotional state.
Originally from Queens, NY, raised in Lake Placid at the heart of the stunning Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, I was exposed to contrasting environments at an early age. I wrote poetry, I ice danced, and after graduating college with a double major in communications and theatre and a minor in theatrical production, I moved to Los Angeles. There I began my career as a visual and theatrical artist.
In the first few years of living in Los Angeles I came to be represented by Agora Gallery and Amsterdam Whitney in New York City. As a bi-coastal artist I was able to further explore the effects geographically specific environmental factors have on our lives and recognize patterns that exist as universals. I ultimately realized this…environment is the single most important factor in defining who we are, and that environments come in many forms. They can form in the sensation that develops between two people when they are talking and they can also be constructed as space that exists around us like that of nature, shopping malls or our homes.
I developed a keen understanding of spatial relations in the form of structural design in 2004 when I began collaborating with interior designers, architects and construction managers as a restorer and lead artist at decorative arts and antique restoration studio that specialized in Chinoiserie. I’ve had the privilege of working on projects for Micheal S. Smith, Peter Marino, Kristen Buckingham, Mark Appleton Architect, Platner & Associates, Four Point Design + Build, McCoy Construction and Quintus Home. I expanded my conceptual understanding of space when I began exploring the digital landscape in 2009. My first multimedia art installation that fused traditional art and technology was exhibited at the Suncheon Bay Eco-Environmental Arts Festival in South Korea in 2016.
Skills that I developed working in the interior design industry and as a fine artist are now being applied to my work as a tattoo artist. It’s a privilege unlike any other to make marks on another person’s body. Ultimately, I tell stories either my own or someone else’s through paint brushes, tools or tattoo machines.
